Though Wingham is a small community it has a wide range of amenities you’d find in bigger towns, including medical clinics and a hospital, a choice of supermarkets, lumber and hardware stores, banks, and more. There are several large employers in town including Britespan and Wescast, and you’re just one hour from Bruce Power. Wingham’s historic downtown area has many friendly local pubs, eateries and cafes in addition to popular chain restaurants, and the Town Hall Theatre is a great place to catch live music and lots of shows. If you love microbrews then head to nearby Blyth, home to the gorgeous Cowbell Brewing Company, and catch a show at the Blyth Theatre, a performing arts space and gallery.

Young families will find everything they need to thrive and grow in Wingham. The town is served by four schools: the North Huron Children’s Centre, Maitland River Elementary, F.E. Madill Secondary School, and Sacred Heart Separate School. There’s lots of space to play, with riverfront parks and playgrounds, splashpad, and the Huron County Library.

The expansive North Huron Wescast Community Centre is the town’s hub for sports and leisure, featuring a hockey arena, aquatic centre, fitness centre, multi-use courts and programs for all ages. You can play a round of golf or throw some stones at the beautiful Wingham Golf and Curling Club, which has a 9-hole course and four sheets for curling.

Maitland Ridge Estates is also the perfect place for outdoor enthusiasts, with easy access to all the incredible nature literally outside your doorstep. Strap on your hiking boots and in five minutes you’re on the Wingham Community Trail which follows the old railway tracks across the river and around the local conservation area. You’re only 10 minutes away from the Blyth Access Point of the G2G Rail Trail which runs 132km from Goderich to Guelph, passing through farmlands, green space, and lots of scenic small towns where you can stop for a break and a bite to eat.

And of course, being right on the waterfront, you can take advantage of the opportunities for fly fishing, kayaking and canoeing on the rushing Maitland River. On the weekends, load up the car and enjoy the scenic drive to the coastline of Lake Huron, or venture further out to the natural beauty of the Bruce Peninsula.
